Welcome to Newport News Church of Christ

The Newport News Church of Christ was planted on the Virginia Peninsula in 1923, and moved to it’s current location in 1958. The Church of Christ is established upon the foundation of the teaching of Jesus Christ as stated in Matt 16:18. Jesus said, “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Jesus promised to build his church, and this church would belong to him. Colossians 1:18 states “And He is the head of the body, the church:” In Ephesians 5:23 we learn that “Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body.” Apostle Paul in Romans 16:16 stated “The Churches of Christ Salute you” as he wrote to the Church in Rome. We wear Christ’s name and are called Christians as we read in Acts 11:26 “And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”

We the Newport News congregation are local members of Christ’s body (which is his church, Eph 1:22). For by one spirit we were baptized into one body (1 Cor 12:13). There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and father of all. The church of Christ as a whole still continues in the oneness of the apostles’ doctrine from the first century (Acts 2:41-42). Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, That ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment (1 Cor 1:10).
